What is Ayurveda?
- Ayurveda is the “science of life” or the art of living, daily living in harmony with the rhythms and laws of nature.
- Ayurveda means life and veda means knowledge or wisdom, so it is the knowledge of life.
- It is the holistic alternative science from India that is more than 6,000 years old and is believed to be the oldest healing science in existence.
- It is based on the laws of nature, and the intrinsic relationship human beings and the entire universe.
- The aim is to maintain the heath of a healthy person or prevent illness and to help naturally heal an unhealthy person.
- Health is harmony and balance among the bodies three fundamental energies- (vata, pitta and kapha)
- This is an ancient way of interconnectedness with body, mind and spirit and living in sync with the cycles of nature, the seasons, the moon and solar cycles, the daily circadian rhythm and your own daily habits and lifestyle.
Part 1: Ayurveda for Healthy Digestion
In Ayurveda, healthy digestion is considered absolutely essential to thriving health. And in order to understand how to improve digestion, it’s helpful to have an awareness of the Ayurvedic definition of digestion—also known as Agni.
The Sanskrit word for “fire,” agni is viewed as the very source of life, governing not only the digestion of food but also the digestion process of thoughts, emotions, and life experience. Ayurveda teaches that impaired agni is at the root of every imbalance, and that tending this fire in the digestive system is the first step in restoring balance.
Part 1 of this workshop is intended to give you a deeper understanding and appreciation of agni, while offering practical tools and simple ways to avoid digestive problems and increase gut health and your overall health and wellbeing.

Part 2: Ayurveda for Healthy Hormones
In part 2 of this Ayurvedic Workshop we will delve into the intricate world of hormones, understanding how imbalances occur and their far-reaching effects on your body, mind, and emotions. Discover the specific imbalances related to different life stages, from puberty and menstrual cycles to menopause and beyond.
The main functions of the hormones include development and growth, metabolism of food, sexual function, and reproductive growth and health. Additionally, they are responsible for cognitive function, emotional balance and regulation and in the maintenance of body temperature and thirst. Hormones are secreted by the endocrine glands of the body. The glands do not have ducts, so the hormones are secreted directly into the bloodstream. Some of the most important endocrine glands in the body include the pituitary gland, pineal gland, thymus, thyroid, adrenal glands, pancreas, testes and ovaries. These organs secrete hormones in extremely small amounts and only a very small amount is needed to cause major changes in the body.
We will learn about some simple and easy ways to help balance our hormones through diet, nutrition, herbs and an ayurvedic lifestyle that is supportive of your dosha and constitution.
Unlock the healing potential of Ayurveda to help calm your mind, body, emotions and bring you back into homeostasis, back into balance. To help deepen our knowledge we will explore Ayurvedic cyclical living, explore the lunar cycles and our root and sacral chakras.
